Ice skating is a favorite winter activity for people around the world. Whether you’re looking for weekend fun for the kids or a new hobby, check out these three ice rinks in and around Lehigh Valley.

Steel Ice Center

Located on 1st Street in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Steel Ice Center opened in 2003 and continues to host public ice skating sessions throughout the week. Head in on a weekday morning or a weekend afternoon and evening. Public skate is offered on most Fridays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. for some late-night fun. Admission ranges from $3 to $8 depending on age, and skate rentals are available for only $3.

A live DJ heats up the rink at a regular dance party on Friday nights. Host your next party in one of their five party rooms, and even reserve the rink just for you and your guests. Enjoy some grub at the Steel Pub Restaurant or a quick bite from the snack bar. Be sure to check the online calendar as times can change depending on ice rentals and local sports practices.

If you’re looking for lessons for your child, sign up for one of their Learn to Skate Classes. Get the little ones excited about hockey at a Youth Learn to Play session.

The Rink

The Rink at Lehigh Valley offers weekend public skate sessions on 7th Street in Whitehall, Pennsylvania. Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons, the rink is open for visitors to enjoy some fun on the ice. Both kids and adults can learn to skate with professional coaches on Sunday mornings. Register for their Basic Skills Program and get a coupon for six public skate sessions and free rental skates.

Looking to learn a new skill? Figure skating lessons are available with some of the top coaches in the area. Choose private lessons for one-on-one learning, or enjoy getting to know other skaters with group sessions.

Already a hockey player? Get out for some competitive fun when you join one of their adult hockey leagues, competing from October through April.

Earl E. Schaffer Municipal Ice Rink

The only outdoor rink in the area, the Earl E. Schaffer Municipal Ice Rink is open from November 3rd through March 25th for the 2017-2018 season. Found on Illick’s Mill Road, this rink offers plenty of opportunities for public skating. Come out for some winter fun on Fridays and Saturdays from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Save money with a season pass, or pay up to $6.50 per person with a $3 fee for rental skates. Private rink rental is available for parties with two private rooms ready to house the celebration. Sign up for private or group lessons if you’re looking to learn.

Next time you’re in the Lehigh Valley area, don’t miss out on an opportunity for family fun or an exciting date night — enjoy some ice time at one of these neighborhood rinks.
