Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom

Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom is an amusement and water park situated just southwest of downtown Allentown. The amusement park features eight roller coasters, seven thrill rides, 15 family rides, and 14 kiddie rides. If you’re looking to cool down on a hot summer day, head to the water park and enjoy the 19 slides and attractions that include the plunging Boa Blasters and the exciting wave pool. The park also offers special events throughout the year, multiple dining options, and entertaining shows.

 

Allentown Art Museum

Situated in downtown Allentown, the Allentown Art Museum was founded with help from famous Pennsylvania impressionist painter Walter Emerson Baum. The museum has over 13,000 works of art that span thousands of years. When you visit, you can view textiles, photographs, paintings, prints, drawings, and more. The museum also has a library with over 40 current periodicals and 16,000 titles.

 

Museum of Indian Culture

The Museum of Indian Culture seeks to preserve and share the history of the Lenape and other Northeastern Woodland Native American cultures. Here you’ll see a wide variety of items, including ceramics, baskets, stone tool collections, carvings, weapons, beadwork, and photographs from the Native tribes of the surrounding area. The collection even includes ceremonial clothing from the Aztecs in Mexico and a Hupa basket from California. The Museum of Indian Culture is located in a historic Pennsylvania German stone farmhouse just south of downtown Allentown.

 

 

America on Wheels Museum

Discover the history of transportation in America from the bicycle to vehicles of tomorrow at America on Wheels Museum in downtown Allentown. The museum has over 75 trucks, cars, motorcycles, and bicycles on display. Learn about many of the American firsts in automobile history, including one of the first cars ever made, the first type of car built by mass production, and the first electric car. There are interactive exhibits in each gallery, including one where you can have your picture taken in a mini-Indy racecar driver’s seat. If you’re looking for a special treat while you’re at the museum, stop by the Hubcap Cafe for a milk shake, ice cream cone, or soda float.

 

Liberty Bell Museum

Head to downtown Allentown to learn more about the fascinating history of the Liberty Bell at the Liberty Bell Museum. The museum is housed in Zion’s United Church of Christ, where the Liberty Bell was hidden during the Revolutionary War. When you stop by the museum, you’ll learn how the colonists snuck the bell out of Philadelphia, explore exhibits about the Revolutionary War, and even have the opportunity to ring an exact replica of the Liberty Bell.
