The excitement of driving your new car off the lot is a feeling that’s hard to replicate, but why settle for only enjoying the new car pride for a short period of time? Here are four ways to keep your Lexus looking like new.

Keep Up With Maintenance

The most important way to keep your Lexus in great shape is to keep up with regular maintenance. Take your vehicle to the dealership for top-of-the-line service catered specifically to Lexus models. Vehicles that perform like new because of quality, regular maintenance, feel brand new.

Check your oil levels regularly, and make sure the oil is changed within the time frame specified in your owner’s manual. For optimal performance and engine care, most professionals recommend getting your oil changed every 5,000 miles or six months, whichever comes first. Tires should also be rotated every six to eight months, so many drivers simply schedule the oil changes and tire rotations together.

Fix Scratches Quickly

Even the smallest scratches can cause rust over time. Minor paint scratches can be fixed at home with a corrective wax. Larger scratches or dents might require a professional look, but be sure not to put off making the appointment. Not only do exterior blemishes take away from the look of the car, but they also cause the owner to view the vehicle differently. You might be tempted to be less careful around the car or even while driving once you’ve decided damage doesn’t matter.

Wash and Wax Regularly

Frequent washing and waxing is probably the most obvious way to keep a car looking like new. During the winter months, this is especially important. Salt from the icy roads will quickly coat the sides and undercarriage of the car. If salt is left untouched, it is very corrosive to the vehicle. Automatic, drive-through washes are a great option for quick winter care, as they usually have a system that cleans underneath your car.

If cleaning at home, use cleaners specifically designed for vehicles. Abrasive products like dish soap will actually speed up the oxidation process in the paint, which makes it look dull over time. Always spray cleaners on your towel or rag, not directly on the car. Microfiber wash mitts are the perfect fabric for gentle cleansing.

Keep the Interior Clean

Even though the inside of your vehicle isn’t visible to most as you drive, it is just as important as the exterior to keep clean. The longer you go between cleaning leather and upholstery, the harder it will be. Interior damage devalues a vehicle, and it takes away from the like-new feel. Regularly vacuum the seats and floors, wipe down the doors, console, and dash, and don’t forget the insides of the windows.

Along with regular cleaning, changing your cabin air filter at least once a year is a great way to keep things smelling nice and the air fresh.
