Allentown, Pennsylvania, is in a great location with many road trip-worthy destinations nearby. Check out a few of the best road trips you can take from Allentown in an hour or less.

Beltzville State Park

Beltzville State Park is in Lehighton, Pennsylvania, which is less than an hour from Allentown. This 3,000-acre state park is situated within the Poconos foothills, offering visitors memorable views and an abundance of outdoor entertainment.

The park is one of the best fishing spots in the entire area, well-stocked with trout with a stream feeding into the 950-acre Beltzville Lake. The amphitheater hosts frequent events right on the park lawn. Be sure to also check out the historic covered bridge which was once occupied with horse and buggy traffic.

Breinigsville, Pennsylvania

Breinigsville, Pennsylvania, is only about 20 minutes from the center of Allentown and offers even more types of entertainment. The Vynecrest Winery has complimentary wine tastings and serves locally-made wines in the basement bar. The outdoor covered patio is the perfect spot to sit back, relax, and enjoy the beautiful views of the Pennsylvania vineyard. The winery also hosts frequent events including live music nights, Jazz weekends, and an upcoming spooky cellar experience, just in time for Halloween.

Breinigsville is also home to the Berks County – Lehigh Valley wine tour experience. The company will take you and a few of your friends to the best local wineries and craft breweries. Many of the wineries offer special discounts, exclusive to tour tasters. Along the way, they will provide attendees with interesting information about the local vineyard scene of the city.

Clinton, New Jersey

In less than an hour, you can cross the state line into Clinton, New Jersey. Clinton is full of entertaining history with the Red Mill Museum Village and the Hunterdon Art Museum. If you want to stretch your legs after a day spent indoors, the Spruce Run Recreational area or the Columbia Trail are both great options. The Columbia Trail is one of the most unique hiking trails in the area, spanning over 15-miles of hardwood forests, gorges, and a historic railroad station built entirely in stone.

Clinton also has many wonderful restaurants to check out on your road trip. The Clean Plate Kitchen serves healthy American foods. Most of the items on the menu are organic. If the weather is nice, request a table on the outdoor waterside terrace for the best views. Another Clinton restaurant, Pru Thai, is a delicious casual Thai-inspired restaurant.

Easton, Pennsylvania

Easton, Pennsylvania, is a great spot to visit as a family. The Crayola Experience is an entire warehouse filled with child-approved activities. Scott Park is a lush green park with beautiful scenery and a hands-on children’s playground area. The park also sits directly on the Lehigh River, offering you beautiful waterfront views.

Both adults and children alike will enjoy the Delaware River Railroad Excursions. Take a train ride through the city and along the Delaware River on the historic 1989 No. 142 train.
