Volunteering is a great way to get out, meet interesting people, and help the community. In the Lehigh Valley area, there are a large number of charity organizations that could use help all the time. From business and entrepreneurial counseling to helping children get a head start, you’ll have your choice on which group to help today. Here are five volunteer activities that give you the chance to give back to your community.

Lehigh Valley Score

New business owners and their ideas are the cornerstones of our economy, At Lehigh Valley Score, experienced business owners partner with those just starting out. The face-to-face interactions provide free counseling services and advice in all areas of business management. You can meet with aspiring business owners one-on-one, host workshops, or provide administrative functions.

NAMI Lehigh Valley

National Alliance on Mental Illness-Lehigh Valley helps to improve the lives of those affected by serious mental illness. NAMI helps individuals and families cope with the illness while also finding ways to adapt and recover from the challenges. The organization relies on volunteers to represent them within the community. Potential volunteer opportunities include NAMI Ambassadors for events, educational materials manager, and school programs presenters.

Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites

History is what defines our community and gives context for what is happening now. This organization’s mission is to bring the history of the Bethlehem area to life and preserve historic sites. With historic site tours, special events, and history workshops, there is always plenty to do and many opportunities for volunteering. If history is your thing, consider one of the volunteer roles, including museum host, site docent, and committee member. This organization is a fantastic way to keep the history of Bethlehem alive for years to come.

Feed the Children

This national organization focuses on doing away with childhood hunger, By connecting donors, experts, and communities, they take on the problem from all angles. In the Lehigh Valley, they provide distribution services to children in need. Joining Feed the Children as a volunteer means that you will be taking positive steps to make sure no child goes hungry. Volunteer opportunities include box brigade and the Teacher Store team members.

Teach Rwanda

Teach Rwanda prepares teachers to provide “engaging, meaningful learning experiences.” The organization believes that early childhood education is critical to success later in life. By providing resources to teachers on the ground in Rwanda, they can have a positive impact on developing resilient and creative children better prepared to take on a successful life. Here in the Lehigh Valley, the charity is looking for help in many areas including technology services which involves collecting donated and recycled laptops for teachers.

These are only five of the organizations doing important work in our community. Most nonprofit organizations have more work and more goals than their staff can handle.
