The seventh generation of the Lexus ES again redefines luxury. Based on Toyota’s new Global Architecture, the ES is longer and wider than previous models. In 2019 you’ll get more power, a more dynamic hybrid system, and the F Sport model which features the company’s Adaptive Variable Suspension. Here are four things you should know about the 2019 Lexus ES.
F Sport Model
Until this year every Lexus sedan had an F Sport model except the ES. Now the ES is available with the top of this line trim level. On the F Sport model, you’ll find a more athletic build thanks in large part to refined suspension tuning with adaptive dampers. The Adaptive Variable Suspension responds quickly to changing road conditions using multiple, driver-selected presets. With the F Sport model, Lexus has turned a refined and comfortable luxury sedan in a capable sports sedan.
Refined Powertrain
Lexus Engineers replaced the previous six-speed transmission with a fast shifting eight-speed gearbox. The new transmission has a wider ratio which helps achieve better acceleration and fuel efficiency. Engine power was also increased without changing the size of the motor. Using a combined port and direct-fuel-injected system, the ES gains 34 horsepower, which is up 34 horses from the 2018 model.
Along with gains in the gasoline-powered model, the ES300H offers the fourth generation hybrid system. A 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle engine pairs with powerful electric motors for a total system output of 215 horsepower. In preliminary tests, the ES300h achieved a 44 miles per gallon combined fuel economy. Toyota says that with these numbers the ES300h is the most fuel-efficient luxury hybrid you can buy in the U.S.
Aggressive Styling
A few years ago, Lexus made it clear that pedestrian styling would not be tolerated. Since then, the trademark Spindle Grille has become a staple of the brand, making Lexus vehicles easily recognizable on the roadway. The new ES takes these new design features on with gusto. Including a new interpretation of the grille, slim, angled headlights and deep body panel creasing. The result is an athletic and upscale design that will appeal to the more performance-oriented luxury car buyer.
Luxury Cabin
Inside the ES, you’ll find what makes a luxury sedan a luxury sedan. Highly bolstered leather seats with available heat and ventilation hold the driver and passenger in place. Even with the aggressively sloped roofline, the back seats have plenty of head and leg room to accommodate adults. The ES also features an optional heads-up display and trackpad controlled infotainment system mounted in the center of the dashboard. All ES models also come standard with a Verizon hot spot. For distraction-free operation, the infotainment system can also be controlled using Siri Eyes Free and Amazon Alexa.
Lexus is continually improving on their vehicles. They are not letting their reputation for quality and refinement slow innovation and advancement.
