This museum works to connect people of all ages to the amazing wonders of science. Exhibits
The Da Vinci Science Center has an impressive variety of engaging and hands-on exhibits that make science fun and interesting. The Wave Power! exhibit has a 16-foot-long water tank that shows how we can turn the kinetic energy in ocean waves into electricity. If you stop by the 560-gallon Marine Tank, you can get an up-close look at different marine life. Another popular exhibit at the center is Tunnel Vision, which is a 72-foot-long maze-like tunnel that you have to navigate in complete darkness.
Leo’s Creativity Studio
Leo’s Creativity Studio is a maker’s space where you can use real tools and your imagination to build and create objects. The studio offers different activities throughout the year that complement the shows and exhibits. Some of the current programs in the studio include Defying Gravity, which lets you use simple materials to see how wind and gravity impact each other, and Crazy Contraptions, where you use common objects and materials to learn more about chain reactions and cause-and-effect relationships.
Science Clubs
The Da Vinci Science Center has plenty of Science Clubs that let children delve even deeper into their science exploration. The STEAM Club is an eight-week club that explores the relationship of science, technology, engineering, art, and math. STEM Girls is a club open to middle school students who want to learn more about the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. The center also hosts FIRST LEGO League programs, the Mack Trucks Manufacturing School, and Young Inventors Program.
Little Learners: My Grown-Up & Me
For the younger science learners out there, the Da Vinci Science Center offers a Little Learners: My Grown-Up & Me program. The five-week program is open to preschoolers between the ages of 2 and 6 and their adults. During the program, children will enjoy hands-on activities where they’ll learn how to work together to create projects and solve problems. The activities will also help them work on their observation skills, fine motor skills, inquiry skills, prediction skills, and science vocabulary.
Senior Science Mondays
Young children aren’t the only ones who will find programs that help them explore the world of science. The Da Vinci Science Center also offers Senior Science Mondays for adults age 55 and older. The center works with experts from St. Luke’s University Health Network to provide an in-depth look at a variety of health topics. In addition to the hour-long session, the program will also include light snacks and drinks. After the program is over, you’re welcome to explore the science center to see what else you can learn that day.
