Allentown Activities in Allentown, PAThere are some really amazing places to enjoy culture and arts around Allentown. The following are the absolute best around.

Allentown Art Museum

You can enjoy plenty of art and culture at the Allentown Art Museum. The museum has a collection of over 13,000 works of art, some of which date back nearly 2,000 years. The museum also regularly hosts visiting exhibits and holds cultural events where you can see new and exciting art from around the world.

At the Allentown Art Museum, you can browse through photography exhibits, sculptures, and paintings from both local and nationally renowned artists. Keep up to date on the museum’s event calendar so you don’t miss a chance to meet an artist and discuss their work face-to-face.

Civic Theater of Allentown

If live theater is more your thing, get over to the Civic Theater of Allentown. There are different musicals, bands, operas, and plays throughout the year with very reasonably priced tickets.

This is also a fantastic place if you want to get more involved in the local theater. Whenever there is a new play at the theater, the theater opens up auditions to the public. You can check the theater website to see what shows are currently being auditioned for and if it’s something you’d be interested in pursuing.

Museum of Indian Culture

To learn more about other cultures, take the whole family to the Museum of Indian Culture. It’s a fantastic place to learn more about the cultures that are native to the lands that we now inhabit. There are exhibits about the Delaware Indians, also called the Lenape Indians, as well as other Northeastern Woodlands tribes.

You can explore different artifacts, such as agricultural tools, pottery, and clothing. Kids will love the interactive exhibits where they can learn to start a fire or throw a spear.

We recommend taking a guided tour so that you can really understand what the different artifacts signify. You can take a tour Friday through Sunday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Lehigh County Historical Society

The Lehigh County Historical Society is one of the largest historical societies in the entire country. The headquarters building in Allentown is nearly 30,000 square feet and has six different galleries where you can see well-preserved artifacts from decades past.

The Historical Society has artifacts and historical notes that date from Colonial America all the way through to the Industrial Revolution. There are over 35,000 artifacts, 12,000 vintage photographs, and over 3-million documents.

You can simply walk through the museum when you visit to see what items are on display. If you’re particularly interested in a certain period, you can explore the archives or find more information in the historical society’s library.

Whether you’re looking to get more involved in the cultural side of Allentown or you simply want to experience it, take the whole family to one of these fantastic cultural centers in Allentown this weekend. You’ll have fun and even learn a thing or two.
