Lexus has already turned heads with its perfect marriage of luxury and space in their NX crossover model. Now they’ve added a hybrid engine to the mix for jaw-dropping fuel efficiency in a mid-size SUV. See how Lexus saves energy with premium design, top-notch tech, and impressive innovation.

Hybrid Engine

A 2.5-liter in-line four-cylinder engine works with an electronically-controlled variable transmission and a sealed nickel metal hydride battery to produce enough power to move this roomy crossover smoothly with 152 pound-feet of torque. It can even tow 1,500 pounds without eating up loads of fuel.

Smart All-Wheel Drive

So you can enjoy the fuel efficiency of a hybrid, but still achieve superior handling, the NX hybrid’s electric all-wheel drive system kicks in only when the vehicle needs the extra power in certain places. If the vehicle detects a need for some extra torque in the rear wheels from the angle of a turn or the road conditions, the electric motor will instantly provide the power needed.

This smarter system doesn’t use extra fuel to provide more control, nor does it lose any necessary friction due to its intelligent technology and lightweight build.

Fuel Efficiency

You’ll enjoy an EPA-estimated 31 miles per gallon combined, with 33 mpg in the city and 30 on the highway. With a fuel tank capacity of 14.8 gallons and no need to charge, you’ll spend more time on the road enjoying the ride and less time filling up.

Tech for Fuel Tracking

A full-color digital display in the gauge cluster provides all the important vehicle information you want. Keep track of your real-time fuel consumption and the hybrid engine’s energy flow. This will show which driving habits are better for fuel efficiency to help you become a more fuel-conscious driver.

You can also choose between three different drive modes so you can get a little more kick one day and better gas mileage another day. A dial on the center console turns between modes from Eco to Normal to Sport. Eco offers the most fuel efficiency, while Sport increases responsiveness, and Normal delivers balance between the two.

Impressive Stats

The 2018 Lexus NX Hybrid earned the emissions rating of a Certified Super Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle, meaning this vehicle produces 90 percent fewer emissions than the other vehicles out there. This rating puts the Lexus NX Hybrid in the same class with other well-known environmentally-conscious vehicles.

However, this hybrid doesn’t sacrifice performance for the eco-friendly system. You’ll still get speed and power while feeling good about your impression on the environment and saving money on fuel. Jump from zero to 60 mph in 9.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 121 mph. The combined horsepower created by the hybrid system is 194. You’ll also still enjoy plenty of space for everything you need with 53.7 cubic-feet of cargo volume when the back seats are folded down and seating for five passengers with the rear seats upright.
